Okay, confession time. I'm cheating on my first love: writing. Now, I'm designing and creating all sorts of gift products: stationery, clipboards, scrapbooks, and domino/scrabble tile/bottlecap jewelry. What happened? Here's the story...
In college, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - teach. After seven years teaching, I realized I wanted more creativity; teaching wasn't allowing me to express my creative side. So, I quit a $45,000/year job for the freelance life. I became a magazine editor and writer - my dream job! Only, that lasted about a year and wanting to start a family got in the way. Oops.
So, what's a girl to do? I sold all my teaching stuff - made good money off it too - so I couldn't go back. Then, it hit me. I was always making stuff for family and friends, why not make a business of it? Hmm...
Now, a year later, I've got a successful small-business, and I'm cheating on my first love. While I still hang out with my first love - editing books and business documents and writing poetry - I find it so exhilirating to be able to do even more of what I love.
